A completed, worked procedure for ISO 14001:2026 Clause 8.1
ISO 14001:2026 has no purchasing clause at all — which is exactly why the requirement gets missed. This template is a completed, worked example that finds it where it actually lives, in Clause 8.1.
Clause 8.1 requires external provision to be controlled or influenced, with the type and extent of both defined within the management system. Organizations read the ‘or’ as an either/or, define the controls they already had, and leave influence undefined. But for most environmental aspects control is unavailable — you do not control the haulier’s fuel or the smelter’s energy source — so influence is the larger half of the obligation, not the optional one. This template defines both.
