Q/EMS Internal Audit Procedure Template & Guide (ISO 9001 + ISO 14001)

$249
A complete, worked internal audit procedure for organizations holding certification to both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2026. ISO 9001 ranks the audit program by the importance of the processes concerned; ISO 14001:2026 by their environmental importance, and a small solvent store can be environmentally significant and quality-trivial at once. This procedure ranks on both lenses and records them separately. Covers the audit program as a controlled document, re-planning triggers, objectives and criteria, method selection, auditor objectivity, evidence, findings, conclusions, reporting and follow-up, with seven integration decisions recorded at Appendix D and the compliance-evaluation boundary stated explicitly. Every requirement is marked by scope, so you can see what ISO 9001 requires, what ISO 14001:2026 requires, and what both do. Where the two standards diverge, the stricter is taken as the house standard and the choice is recorded rather than assumed. Microsoft Word format, fully editable, with the process interaction map supplied as an editable SVG. Perennia Corp is a fictional organization used throughout as a worked example. Your purchase includes a free update to the ISO 9001:2026 alignment when MSI issues it. 32 pages.

Q/EMS Internal Audit Procedure Template & Guide

ISO 9001:2015 + ISO 14001:2026

Buy this template

A complete, worked internal audit procedure for an organization certified to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001:2026 — one program, one auditor pool, one report, with the places the two clauses diverge marked and resolved.

What makes it different

The decisions are already made. Where ISO 9001 and ISO 14001:2026 pull in different directions, the stricter requirement is taken as the house standard and the choice is recorded rather than assumed, with the alternative that was rejected written down beside it.

Worth knowing before you buy. ISO 9001 ranks the audit program by the importance of the processes concerned. ISO 14001:2026 ranks by their environmental importance. A small solvent store is environmentally significant and quality-trivial; a customer-facing process can carry real quality exposure and no environmental significance at all. A single program has to rank on both lenses and record them separately, or one scope inherits the other’s priorities.

What is inside

  • Thirteen procedure sections covering the audit program as a controlled document, re-planning triggers, objectives and criteria, method selection including remote and hybrid, auditor selection and objectivity, preparation, conduct, evidence reliability, findings and classification, conclusions, reporting, follow-up and closure, and monitoring the program
  • The compliance-evaluation boundary stated explicitly — treating the internal audit as the evaluation of compliance is a recurring finding
  • An eight-element maturity ladder, four levels each, described as observable behavior
  • A section on requirements absent from both audit clauses, and structure against ISO 19011:2026
  • Appendix A — internal audit plan
  • Appendix B — audit program register with both ranking lenses recorded separately
  • Appendix C — work instruction for running a combined audit
  • Appendix D — the integration decision record, seven decisions with rejected alternatives
  • Every requirement marked by scope — [Q] ISO 9001 only, [E] ISO 14001:2026 only, unmarked for both
  • A process interaction map, supplied as an editable SVG as well as inside the document
  • A clause cross-reference to both standards

32 pages, Microsoft Word, fully editable. Covers Clause 9.2 of both standards, in full. Perennia Corp is a fictional organization used throughout as a worked example.

Who it is for

Organizations holding certification to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001:2026 that run one internal audit program covering both systems.

Questions

Which one do I need?

Take the template for the standard you are certified to. If you run more than one management system through one process, take the matching combined variant — Device for ISO 9001 with ISO 13485, Q/EMS for ISO 9001 with ISO 14001, HSE for ISO 14001 with ISO 45001, and Integrated for all three of quality, environment and safety. This page is the Q/EMS variant.

Is this written for ISO 14001:2026 or the 2015 edition?

The 2026 edition. Clause references, the policy commitments and the communication requirements are taken from ISO 14001:2026 as published, not carried over from 2015 and relabelled.

Does an internal audit satisfy the evaluation of compliance?

No, and this is one of the most common findings in environmental systems. Evaluation of compliance is a separate requirement at ISO 14001:2026 9.1.2 and is not satisfied by conducting an internal audit. This procedure states the boundary explicitly and points at where the evaluation belongs.

Who do audit results have to be reported to?

Relevant management. ISO 9001 9.2.2 d) and ISO 14001:2026 9.2.2 c) both stop there, and neither names a wider audience. This procedure records which managers received which results and within what period.

What happens when ISO 9001:2026 is published?

Your purchase includes a free update to the ISO 9001:2026 alignment when MSI issues it. Register your purchase to receive it. The ISO 14001:2026 content is already current.

Can I edit it?

Yes. Microsoft Word format, fully editable, with the process interaction map supplied as an editable SVG. Bracketed entries are decisions for you to make; nothing is left blank or marked TBD.
